President Trump declared that a major disaster does exist in California. He ordered federal assistance to support the state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the places effected by COVID19.
This makes federal funding available for affected people in all areas of California. This is also available for local governments and certain private nonprofit orgs for emergency protective measures.
This comes in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s request of a major disaster declaration earlier today.
Newsom Wrote to President Trump “Unfortunately, California has been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, besides California being home to nearly 40 million people, which itself poses significant logistical issues few other states face, California partnered with the federal government in several extremely complex and challenging repatriation missions, which strained California’s healthcare delivery system.”
In addition to the signing of this, President Trump also signed paperwork to have the federal government pay for National Guard deployments in New York, California, and Washington.
